I only sell on eBay part-time, so what I have listed below isn’t all days. I get two days “off” during the week from my main day job, so I use those to get stuff done on eBay.
I do post a minimum of 5 items each day, but what follows covers those days I can spend more time on selling.
My Routine
You can break it down into four key steps (the first two are ones I do every day):
-
-
- Package up any sales from overnight
- List a minimum of 5 items (usually more)
- Go to thrift stores / op shops to source more inventory
- Take photos of items to list in the coming days
-
I do all of these in the morning, from about 7am to around 10-10:30am (I am usually getting kids ready and off to school during this time as well).
Do you have a goal for your eBay selling?
I always find it best if you have a goal you are working towards. Mine is simple and it keeps me motivated.
Packing
The first one is pretty self-explanatory and I usually have 1-2 items to pack up and send off. I do tend to do this during the day as sales come through (assuming I am home and have the time). This way, items don’t pile up.
Listing
Listing 5 items per day is my minimum. I do list more if I have more items ready and I have the time.
I list using my mobile phone and have the photos already taken (see taking photos, below), so this part is pretty straight forward. I have also already listing them in a tracking spreadsheet, and I just add the date listed on that sheet after listing the item.

Heading to Thrift Stores
Going to the thrift stores for new inventory is the fun part, right? I usually go to 1-2 different stores in one day. spending between 20-40 minutes at each one, depending on how large they are.
I find if I really have a decent look through these stores, I will find something worth grabbing. It’s rare that I will come away with nothing at all.
Taking Photos
Taking photos is something I do in bulk – usually between 10-20 items at a time, depending on how many items I have to list and what they are.
I then crop and align the photos on my phone and there are then ready for when I do my listing, which I do on my phone (see listing, above).
That’s my basic routine on those days I have more time and I am not working.
