Recently I have gotten back into retro gaming, dusting off my PS2, SNES, and PSP. While I had the consoles, I had very few games I wanted to play on them.
With the retro gaming bug biting me big time, I decided to grab some games which were old favourites and look up some new ones that I find interesting enough to buy and play.
But I knew I didn’t want to spend hundreds of dollars (I didn’t really have) on games. So, I had an idea to use some of the money I make from re-selling on eBay to fund my retro games collection.
I decided on 10% of after-tax profit I make re-selling on eBay, I will use to buy retro console games.
This way, I am not spending any of my own money and it will spur me on to list and sell more.
A win-win!
The Retro Gaming Fund So Far
Over the last 5 weeks I have made a total of $165.29*, so my gaming fund currently sits at $16.53. Not huge, but I hope to grow it over the coming weeks and months.
* All dollar values are in Australian dollars.
(If you want to see my earnings from week-to-week, keep an eye on my list of posts showing my weekly earnings from re-selling on eBay).
I have already started building a list of games I want to purchase – some of them pretty rare, so it may be a while before I can afford them.
What I’m After
I want hard copies of the games. I know I could have emulated versions, but I am old school and I want to own my physical media (I collect DVDs and CDs, as well).
Good copies – complete in box and with manual – is something else I am aiming for, if at all possible.
The game consoles I currently have are:
-
-
- PS2
- SNES
- PSP
-
Having a PS2 means I can play PSone games as well, so I made a separate list for them.
I have a short list for all of these, but they are not an exhaustive list by any means – I add to them as I hear about a game I want.

PlayStation 2
For PS2, I already have Madden 2003, Soulcalibur 2, and Super Monkey Ball Adventures.
My wishlist for PS2 is as follows:
-
-
- Champions of Norrath ($60-$70)
- Champions Return to Arms ($20-$50)
- Maximo: Ghosts to Glory ($35-$45)
- Maximo 2: Army of Zin ($40-$50)
- Gauntlet Seven Sorrows ($30-$35)
- Gauntlet Dark Legacy ($40-$60)
- Growlanser: Heritage of War ($200+)
- Culdcept 2 (Rare – maybe only NTSC Version)
- Barbarian $100+ in AUS, Cheaper OS)
- Batman Vengence ($40)
- Seek & Destroy ($10)
-
They are in a rough order of preference, but that’s not set in stone. The prices are what they are going for on eBay (in Australia).
PlayStation One
As I have a PS2, I can also play PSone games on it, so I also have a list for them:
-
-
- Legend of Dragoon ($300+)
- Vandal Hearts ($130+)
- Vandal Hearts II ($200+)
- Alien Trilogy ($35-$50)
- Tekken 3 ($35-$50)
- Lifeforce Tenka ($40-$60)
- Gauntlet Legends ($30-$35)
- Overboard ($35-$60)
-
Again, they are in a rough order of my desire to buy them, but this isn’t set in stone as I probably won’t be getting Legend of Dragoon any time soon.

Super Nintendo
I also have a Super Nintendo, but so far I only have one game so far I want on that console:
-
-
- Super Ghouls & Ghosts ($60-$70 cartridge only)
-
PlayStation Portable
And finally, my PSP game list:
-
-
-
- Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny ($40-$50)
- Tekken: Dark Resurrection ($15-$25)
- Ultimate Ghosts n Goblins ($30-$40)
- Jeanne D’Arc ($100+ in AUS. $30-$40 from Japan)
- Monster Kingdom Jewel Summoner (Rare in AUS – $40-$50 from overseas)
-
-
PSP games are pretty cheap in comparison, so I am keen to get them while they continue to be so cheap.
That’s the plan. I will keep you posted on my game fund and any purchases I make.
