Third post in and I am not sure why I am posting my rating system – I mean, I don’t even use it on this website.
Not to say that I won’t use it, but I’m not currently.
I guess I wanted to document this, which is something that has been in my head for decades.
The system is your standard out-of-ten system, but if differs with most as the average score – 5 – means it’s a decent film, but there is nothing extraordinary or special about it.
The Ratings
Below are the ratings from worst to best. I have also included an example of a movie for each rating (rated by me, of course).
1 – Woeful. Really stinking bad. Throw all copies of it in the bin.
Example: Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017)
2 – Not even passable. Wouldn’t recommend it to my worst enemy.
Example: War of the Worlds (2005)
3 – Pretty crappy. It wasn’t worth watching and I do wish I had that time back.
Example: Fight Club (1999)
4 – Okay. Just okay. It’s probably worth a watch if nothing else is available, but there is much better out there.
Example: Batman (1989)
5 – A decent movie. Nothing special, but you can definitely sit through it.
Example: American Pie (1999)
6 – There is something there. Whether it was a part of the movie that shined, or a performance was outstanding – something about this otherwise average film was good.
Example: Fantastic Four (2005)
7 – This film pushed the genre and/or was very enjoyable.
Example: Face/Off (1997)
8 – A great film. A definite re-watch and it is something special.
Example: Blade Runner (1982)
9 – One of the best films ever made. Not perfect, but damn close. A movie you can re-watch over and over.
Example: Jaws (1975)
10 – A perfect movie. No part of this movie is terrible or even just good. It is fantastic.
Example: Die Hard (1988)
