I haven’t been looking around many thrift store (op shops here in Australia) as I have had some medical issues, but I finally made it out again and ended up at a suburb near me that has six thrift store next to each other!
In Australia, they always seem to clump around each other. It makes sense, I guess, as they all attract the same clientele.
Anywhoo, I grabbed a few DVDs that I haven’t seen yet, from all over various decades – from the 80s to the 2000s.
The Muppet Show
The one that stands out most is the Muppets boxed set. This is season one of the original Muppet show, which I loved as a kid and want to re-watch. The cover is a little beat up, but the discs are in excellent condition. And it was AU$5. Not too bad for four discs ($1.25 per disc).
The Money Pit
I am ashamed to have to say I have not seen this movie before. Or, if I have, I have completely forgotten anything that happens.
I am on a bit of an early Tom Hanks kicks at the moment (as well as a Nicolas Cage and Willem Dafoe kick), so this was a good find for me as I hadn’t seen it, and I didn’t own it. And at AU$2, it had to be bought.
The Punisher Collection
I have to say right off the bat that I am not a huge fan of The Punisher movies, but given this was a collection of the two movies (from 2004 and 2008, respectively) I thought I would snap it up and give them a go. The first one I have seen bits of, but it hasn’t gotten a complete watch in this household before, and War Zone I hadn’t heard of, so haven’t watched.
These won’t be high on my watch list (I have Nicolas Cage movies to watch!), but I will get to it. And for AU$2 for two films, it was worth it.
Adventureland
For AU$1, I couldn’t pass this one up. I haven’t seen it yet, but have heard good thing. It was one of those 2000s movies which I remember the hype for, but never got to see.
As an aside, do you leave the stickers on the DVDs, or do you get them off and clean the up? I am in the former camp, unless I am going to sell them. I just love the nostalgia of those stickers – knowing that at some stage, someone bought this movie for $19.95 at Video Ezy (a Blockbuster type chain of video stores here in Australia).
Pet Cemetary
I first saw this movie when I was a kid and it had a pretty deep impact on me. I was too young to appreciate it back then, but it did freak me out. This and Poltergeist.
I didn’t have this movie, so it will be head into my Stephen King collection, which is pretty big now. I think there are only a couple more I still need. Having said that, I still need to see all of them – there are many I own, but haven’t gotten around to watch them yet.
Over to You
That’s it for my latest thrift store haul. What have you managed to find to add to your collection?
